About
The Heinrich-Böll-Bibliothek, the Pankow district central library right by Greifswalder Straße S-Bahn station, runs a free lantern-making afternoon shortly before St Martin's Day. Under the guidance of a local artist, children make their own individual lanterns to carry on the November lantern walks - the session is aimed at children and young people and is listed as a highlight in the library's own children's programme. The workshop is free of charge and needs no registration, so families can simply drop in between 15:00 and 18:00 and take home a finished lantern in time for the St Martin's parades around 11 November. The session is held in German, which makes it a good chance for children to pick up the lantern songs and vocabulary their Berlin kindergarten uses. Adults should stay and help younger children, and the whole family is welcome.
